BiographyTimothy Minthorn is a Toronto composer, producer and pianist highly sought after in the Canadian music scene. He has considerable skills and experience in composing, arranging, producing and performing music within many genres including classical, jazz and pop/rock. Timothy has worked with many Toronto and Canadian musicians on recording, song and music production projects, composed music for animation, lifestyle and documentary television and has been hired by record companies to produce, arrange and composer for Juno winning artists. Timothy works out of his recording and music production studio in Toronto.


After receiving a degree in music from the University of Waterloo, Timothy moved to Toronto to pursue studies in composition with the late Juno award winning composer Srul Irving Glick. Such intensive studies are reflected in Minthorn's work today, as the late composer Srul Irving Glick called Timothy a "pianist of considerable ability", predicting that he "has the talent to make an important contribution to Canadian music". In the classical world, Timothy has demonstrated his unique talent as a virtuoso composer-pianist at the University of Waterloo, Kingston University, The University of Guelph, Roy Thomson Hall, The Glenn Gould Studio, the Toronto Centre for the Arts, Artword Theatre, and the Music Gallery. He has been praised across Canada for his inventive compositions and pianistic flavour. His music lecture and masterclass circuit has included such notable institutions as the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo, Kingston University and the University of Guelph. The American Record Guide said "Canadian composer-pianist Timothy Minthorn is a sensitive and skilled player and composer." "Music-verse combo very successful", reported the Toronto Star after the premiere of Timothy Minthorn's music for Chaucer's "Troilus and Crisyde", describing the music as "flavoured by the impressionistic style of Debussy and Ravel with some jazzy bits neatly woven in". Lucie Renaud of Montreal's La Scena Musicale calls Minthorn "quite unique... a Busoni-like composer-pianist, gifted with a light touch, capable of distancing himself from his own compositions and simply performing them... This is music to win the hearts of even the most hardened contemporary music haters!" Richard Todd of The Ottawa Citizen calls Tidal Storm (Timothy's debut piano CD) one of "10 Canadian discs worth listening to... featuring music that is substantial, without making unusual demands on the listener". Toronto's Wholenote magazine calls the music of Timothy's second disc, Visions "outstanding and very effective."

In the world of commercial music production, Timothy’s music scoring for television and film has developed a list of credits to include Global Television, Discovery Channel, Omni Television, on the big screen in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Singapore and at international film festivals including music work on DragonBlade, the 2005 nomination for best animated feature at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. As a producer with a very diverse musical background, Timothy has been able to draw from many styles of music assisting classical, jazz and pop/rock artists to bring out their best performances and artistic creativity.

Timothy has produced recordings, created arrangements and worked on song production for many established musicians from Canada including Guillaume Côté of the Nation Ballet of Canada; Juno award winning Jazz Crooner, Johnny Favourite; Robi Botos, Frank Botos, Jerzy Cichocki and St. Michael's Choir, Brian Hetherman, A&R Director Curve Music / Universal Music; Toronto Symphony Orchestra's Mark Skazinetsky and Teng Li.The Wholenote magazine praises Timothy's skills as a music producer by saying "Minthorn was the producer which paid off.
